Looking back: clothing swap
Looking back at the past week with a photo or a selection of my favourites shots along with my thoughts and impressions.
I think since I often joke about "not being a fashion blogger," it might be lost on people why I actually do capsule wardrobes: because I care about the environment and don't want to give fast fashion brands my money. I watched "The True Cost" this week, the bedrock documentary that helped bring concerns about the fast-fashion industry to the fore and was reminded just how important it is to be mindful of our purchases.
I'm not here to proselytize, though. Just to be clear, I never am. I just wanted to highlight one of the positive ways to enforce change on this front: clothing swaps. I hosted my first one on Sunday and absolutely loved it. You get together with friends, each person takes clothes that they no longer want to wear and, as the name indicates, you simply take what you want and watch others wear your own clothes — in my case, I think they wore them much better than I did!
Saying no to fast fashion doesn't mean denying yourself fun with clothes or style: for me, it's been the complete opposite. I'll probably be writing about this sort of thing more in-depth this year, but just thought I'd leave you with a (dark) photo of the swap and an enthusiastic recommendation to give it a go!
Siento que como generalmente jodo con el hecho de "no ser influencer de moda," quizás se pierde el porqué de las cápsulas que hago: me importa el medio ambiente y no quiero darles plata a las cadenas de fast fashion. Vi "The True Cost" esta semana, el documental que sirvió como base para visibilizar el problema de la industria de la moda y me hizo recordar lo importante que es ser consciente sobre esto.
No quiero hacer proselitismo, igual. Nunca. Pero quería resaltar una de las maneras positivas en que se puede hacer un cambio: hacer un trueque de ropa. Hice uno en mi casa el domingo y me encantó. Te juntás con amigxs, cada persona lleva ropa que ya no quiere usar y, como indica el nombre, te llevás lo que querés y ves como lxs demás se prueba tu ropa — ¡en mi opinión, les quedaba todo mejor que a mí!
Decirle "no" al fast-fashion no significa que hay que negarse diversión con ropa o el estilo: para mí, ha sido lo opuesto. Probablemente escriba más a fondo sobre esto a lo largo del año pero por ahora quise dejarles con una foto oscura del trueque y recomendárselo con entusiasmo.
