Spring capsule 2018 update

Why the update?

I think I avoided doing these because a) I didn't think my capsule wardrobe was interesting enough and b) my neck pain often meant that I had to stay away from blogging as much as I would have liked. Luckily, you (my darling readers) have shown interest and support, especially on Instagram, and my health has been doing a lot better lately.

Anyway, why bother doing an update? Aside from the fact that many of you seem to enjoy the fashion part of this blog, there's this idea of a perfect, rigid capsule that just isn't true most of the time. Yes, it's great to have a set number of items throughout one season and I don't usually feel like I have to add things. However, even when trying to take pictures for the "final" capsule wardrobe was hard because I kept adding/taking out things. Not only that, it can change throughout the season because weather is not constant and neither are we as humans.

So deep.

But in all seriousness, your preferences can perfectly well change in the course of three months and that's perfectly fine. As long as you're being as intentional as possible and love what you have, the rest doesn't really matter in my book.

Alright, then, it's time for my first ever capsule update!

Creo que venía evitando haciendo estas "actualizaciones" porque a) no creía que mis cápsulas fueran lo suficientemente interesantes y b) lamentablemente, muchas veces mi dolor de cuello implica que me aleje de escribir en el blog. Por suerte ustedes, adorades lectores, han mostrado mucho apoyo, especialmente en Instagram y estoy mucho mejor de la salud.

En fin. ¿Para qué? Aparte de que pareciera coparles, está esta idea de una cápsula perfecta y rígida que la mayoría del tiempo no es verdad. Sí, está genial tener un límite de ropa en una temporada y no suelo sentir que necesito más cosas. Sin embargo, aún en el momento de sacar fotos para la cápsula "final" me costó porque seguía agregando y sacando cosas. No sólo eso, si no que a lo largo de una temporada puede cambiar el clima o podemos cambiar de parecer porque así somos como seres humanxs.

Re profundo...

Pero en serio, tus preferencias pueden cambiar perfectamente a lo largo de tres meses y está perfecto. Mientras que mantengas esa intencionalidad con tu ropa y amar lo que ya tenés, lo demás para mí no importa demasiado.

Additions

Just after publishing the second part of the spring capsule, I inherited a pair of red loafers from my mum: I actually own quite a few things that used to be hers! They are a smidge too big on me, but I took them to the cobblers to be resoled and put some insoles in and I was more than good to go. I'm still breaking them in (yes, that happens with second-hand things) but having a pop of colour on my feet always makes me happy.

I also bought a pair of flat, chestnut-coloured Mary Janes at a thrift shop, which I used for the first time at Pride (check out my "Looking Back" post with photos from that day!). Baptism by fire!

Justo después de publicar la segunda parte de la cápsula, heredé un par de mocasines rojos de mi madre: en realidad, tengo varias cosas que solían ser de ella. Me quedan un toque grandes, pero los llevé al zapatero para ponerles un par de plantillas y una suela de goma y listo. Todavía tengo que aflojarlos (sí, pasa aún con cosas de segunda mano) pero tener un color fuerte en los pies siempre me pone de buen humor.

También me compré un par de guillerminas marrones en una feria americana que estrené en la Marcha del Orgullo (chequeen mi post con fotos de ese día). Bautismo de fuego!

Fails

Two things. First, although I made sure to include lightweight and short-sleeved options, I didn't include vests or shirts with no sleeves. I did use a very old white one as a layering piece but it's not presentable enough to be worn on its own and on very hot days, that would have been very helpful.

Second, I didn't have a pair of casual floor-length bottoms. For spring, I think that would usually have been fine but this spring has been particularly cold and rainy so I froze my ankles off quite a few times, especially in the beginning. It did mean that I used my white trousers a lot, though, so I'm not sure how much of a "fail" this really is.

Dos cosas. Primero, por más que me haya asegurado de incluir cosas livianas y de manga corta, no incluí musculosas o camisas sin mangas. Sí usé una musculosa blanca muy vieja a modo de camiseta pero no está presentable como para usar sola. En los días más calurosos, hubiera sido clave tener esa opción.

Segundo, no tenía un par de pantalones informales hasta el piso. Generalmente en primavera no sería un problema pero esta vuelta ha sido particularlmente fría y lluviosa, así que varias veces me congelé los tobillos (especialmente al principio). Por otro lado, esto implicó que usé mucho mis pantalones blancos, por lo cual no sé si esto cuenta como un fracaso real.

My big fail, though, was forgetting one of my scarves in Chile when I went to visit my cousin. I honestly haven't missed it much, but still: it would have been helpful on those colder days when the silk scarves don't cut it. (Pictured below)

Mi gran fracaso, igual, fue olvidarme de mi pañuelo floreado en Chile cuando la fui a visitar a mi prima. Honestamente, no lo extrañé demasiado pero hubiera sido clave en los días más fríos cuando los pañuelos de seda no eran suficientes.

Successes

Speaking of silk scarves: even though I still don't wear them as often because I think they're delicate, I am loving my Hermes scarf and rediscovering the blue polka dot one I bought in Paris on my exchange programme. There have been new knots and new looks and I honestly think that they elevate any outfit (I can't believe I'm writing this sort of thing!). The biggest success, however, has been my trenchcoat. Wow. Like I said, it has been a very rainy and particularly cold spring this year, so I used this coat A LOT. Not only that, but I haven't missed other coats in its stead. The only issue it has it that it doesn't have a hood but honestly, it's fabulous and I feel very smart in it.

Hablando de, aunque no los use tanto porque me resultan delicados, me está encantado mi pañuelo de Hermés y redescubrí uno con puntitos azules que compré en Paris en 2012. Nuevos nudos y nuevos looks, honestamente creo que elevan cada atuendo (no puedo creer que esté escribiendo este tipo de cosa). El mayor éxito igual fue mi trench clásico de Aquascutum. Increíble. Como dije, estuvo lloviendo mucho y haciendo mucho frío esta vuelta así que usé esta campera un MONTÓN. No sólo eso, no extrañé las otras que tengo. El único problema es que no tiene capuchas pero honestamente, es fabulosa y me siento increíble cuando la uso.

I also started using Cladwell, thanks to a promotion by Signe Hansen I managed to download it for free: this isn't sponsored, but it's a pretty good app for outfit planning assuming you use mostly neutral colours...since I use a lot of colour and print, the app's algorithm doesn't seem to agree with my colour blocking and print mixing choices. It also told me that my most-used colour was blue, which, as we say in Spanish, "chocolate por la noticia" (no shit, Sherlock).

Still, it's reassuring to see how many outfit combinations you can get from a certain amount of items and it also told me that I had used 92% of my wardrobe within two weeks. Considering that it's been really cold and I hadn't been wearing my more summery things, I'm pretty happy about that!

Lastly, I've felt like I've had an outfit for every occasion and never missed anything from my wardrobe. I was particularly happy with my outfit from Remembrance Day (check out my previous "Looking Back" post with photos from that day) where I put together something formal with things I use every day.

También empecé a usar el app Cladwell, gracias a una promoción (no sé si sigue vigente) pude bajarlo gratis. No me están sponsoreando ni nada pero está bastante bueno: lo único, asume que usás colores neutros y como uso mucho color y mezclo estampados medio que no parece estar de acuerdo. También me dijo que el color que más uso es el azul. Chocolate por la noticia.

Igual es lindo ver cuántas combinaciones podés hacer con cierta cantidad de ropa y también me dijo que usé 92% de mi ropa dentro de las primeras dos semanas. Considerando que estuvo haciendo frío y no usé mi ropa más de verano, estoy bastante feliz con eso.

Por último, siempre sentí que tuve un atuendo para cualquier ocasión y nunca me hizo falta nada. Me gustó particularmente lo que usé para el día del Armisticio o "Remembrance Day" (tengo un post aparte con fotos de ese día) que armé un look formal con lo que uso todos los días.

Fluid items

Last but not least, switching my fluid items. You can click on each image to enlarge the gallery and see the description.

As expected, I've swapped my white trousers for linen ones because I can't wear them on really hot days. The linen trousers a little worse for wear but until I replace them I am not donating them because they are awesome.
A sleeveless shirt. I used the navy one a couple of times but it hasn't really been my go-to so I feel okay swapping it
And I kept my red velvet heels. I love them so much and again, it's been chilly.

In addition, my Space Invader sweater has been put away and made way for this lightweight yellow one and I've added an everyday dress instead my long-sleeve blue dress.

Como era de esperar, cambié mis pantalones gruesos blancos por unos de lino porque cuando hace calor es imposible usarlos. Los de lino están un poco viejos pero hasta que no tenga un reemplazo no pienso donarlos porque me encantan.
Una camisa sin mangas. Usé la remera oscura un par de veces, pero no mucho más así que no me costó cambiarla.
Y al final me quedé con los tacos de terciopelo rojo. Me encantan y de vuelta, estuvo fresco el tema.

Además, guardé mi suéter de Space Invader y ahora voy a usar uno amarillo de hilo. Y puse un vestido como para usar todos los días en vez del vestido más formal manga larga.

That's about it! I'll be switching to a summer capsule soon because the weather has been getting really hot but as I write this, it's pretty cold and I've lost my voice thanks to a random drop in temperature over the weekend. Either way, let me know if you enjoyed this!
