Winter capsule 2019, Part 1 (Planning)

Although it took quite a while for me to settle on the autumn capsule, I actually really enjoyed the result. I wore everything practically equally, although I didn't reach for my white trousers or blazer as much as I thought I would (they were handy for meetings, of course). I also loved having a clear accent colour, violet, so I'd like to perhaps repeat having a clear colour palette for winter. That's what I loved about the first capsule I ever did, which I based on a painting, but since I haven't found a painting with a colour palette that suits me or my current wardrobe, I'll just have to sit down and think about it a bit.
Aunque haya tardado bastante en terminar de definir la cápsula de otoño, me encantó el resultado. Usé todo lo que elegí de manera casi igual, aunque no opté tanto por mis pantalones blancos ni el blazer como pensé (fueron claves para reuniones igual, obvio). También me gustó tener un color de realce (se dice así?), violeta, así que quizás quiera recrear esa clara paleta de colores para invierno. Eso fue lo que más disfruté de mi primera cápsula, que basé en un cuadro, pero no encontré ningún otro que incluya colores que me vayan bien ni a mí ni a mi ropero así que lo tendré que pensar.
I think I'm finally settling on what colours suit me, although I haven't defined a "type" or anything like that (deep winter, cool summer, etc.). About a month ago I was at a meeting and caught a look in a nearby mirror: I was green. It wasn't the lighting: it was the shirt. That was hastily taken out of the capsule and I got rid of quite a few things just putting them under my face and seeing what effect it had on my complexion (some things made the bags under my eyes noticeably worse, which I definitely don't need...).
Another "issue" going in is that I had to get rid of most of my sweaters and knits because my arms are suddenly incredibly averse to wool. I do still have some, but not in the more classic colours so I could see a potential purchase there already.
Siento que finalmente estoy terminando de entender qué colores me asientan bien, aunque no haya definido ningún "tipo" o categoría de colores que se usa en el mundo de la moda. Hace como un mes estaba en una reunión y vi mi reflejo en el espejo enorme que estaba en el café: estaba verde. No era la luz: era la camisa que llevaba puesta. Claramente salió volando esa camisa de la cápsula y me deshice de varias cosas basado en cómo me hacían ver la piel (algunas resaltaban mis ojeras, cosa que no necesito...).
Otro "tema" es que tuve que deshacerme de muchos suéters porque mis brazos de repente desarrollaron una alergia a la lana. Divertidísimo. Sigo teniendo abrigo pero no en los colores clásicos de antes así que desde ya probablemente quiera conseguir algo por el estilo.
Defining the capsule // Definiendo la cápsula
Honestly, although I enjoyed the module method that I used (loosely) for the autumn capsule, I feel confident enough to just eyeball this one. I know what I've been enjoying and based on my Pinterest (check out my inspiration board here), I think I primarily want to go for a purposefully layered and "slouchy" look, or a baggier silhouette than usual. However, knowing me, I'll also want to include some well-cut and classic outer layers as well.
As for the colour palette and accent colours, I haven't defined anything yet but I'll probably go for a lighter colour. I loved wearing monochrome black but I feel like everyone does that in colder seasons. Last year the coat I most enjoyed wearing was a cream-coloured one (again...wool...had to donate). So, here's the first draft:
Honestamente, aunque haya disfrutado de usar (más o menos) el método de módulos que usé para la cápsula de otoño, esta vez siento suficiente confianza como para hacerlo a ojo. Sé lo que estuve disfrutando de usar y basado en mi Pinterest (pueden ver mi inspiración acá), quiero un estilo de capas deliberadas o una silueta más holgada. Igual, me conozco y voy a incluir alguna campera clásica también.
En cuanto a los colores, no definí nada todavía pero probablemente vaya con un color más claro. Me encantó usar atuendos monocromáticos oscuros (todo negro, por ejemplo) pero siento que todxs hacen eso en invierno. El año pasado la campera que más disfruté de usar fue una color crema (pero bueno, era de lana así que la tuve de donar). En fin, acá el primer "borrador":
Full disclosure, we're currently painting the apartment and so my closet is in flux at the moment: I took this picture a week ago and it's already changed quite a bit. I am deciding on which dark T-shirt and which light-coloured button-up I should pick: I'll go into detail in Part 2 next week, where everything should return to normal by the time the 21st rolls around (when I "officially" start using this capsule).
Anyway, quite a few of these things are "new": a couple of elements were bought months ago, such as the bronze metallic skirt, so I'm pretty happy that I clearly chose them well. The bright blue down jacket was from the clothing swap I hosted back in January. Then the green flannel is a loan from my partner (those who followed the six item challenge might recognise it) and the dark blue striped top was my sister's (she gave it to me, for the record, none of the classic sartorial stealing between siblings going on!).
The oversized denim jacket is new (the second from the left, the first one won't be included). It's second-hand, as usual, but this time I found it at Plaza Congreso from "el Baúl del Unicornie" at the Ni Unx Menos feminist march on June 3rd, which made it feel all the more special (check out the Looking Back post I wrote about that day, complete with a cringey throwback!). I've been wanting one for a while and I can wear it over the down jacket: I'm so happy with it already and am wearing it a lot already!
Les soy honesto, estamos pintando el departamento así que mi ropero está medio desparramado: saqué esta foto hace una semana y ya cambió un montón. Me estaba decidiendo entre las remeras oscuras y las camisas blancas. La semana que viene pongo todo más en detalle cuando les muestre la cápsula final el 21 y con suerte haya vuelto a la normalidad el departamento.
En fin, muchas de estas cosas son "nuevas": un par de cosas, como la pollera bronce, las compré hace meses, con lo cual estoy feliz con las decisiones que tomé porque claramente acerté digamos. La campera azul es del intercambio de ropa que hice en enero. Después, la camisa verde es de mi pareja (les que siguieron el desafío de usar seis ítems por seis semanas quizás la reconozcan...!) y la remera rayada era de mi hermana (me la regaló, no se la robé!).
Finalmente, la campera de jean es nueva: usada, como siempre, pero esta la compré en plaza Congreso durante la marcha Ni Unx Menos de las chicas de "el Baúl del Unicornie," unas capas totales! Hace mucho que quiero una campera así, puedo usar un montón de abrigo abajo: estoy feliz y no puedo para de usarla! Además, me encanta la anécdota.
The wishlist // Lista de compras potenciales
A colourful coat, preferably one that I could throw in the back of the car without fear of ruining it
A top with a classic pattern, like polka dots (maybe even stripes, but that could be too much for this capsule)
Basic, solid T-shirt
Turtleneck or crew-neck knit (black/grey)
Ideally, I'd like to replace the flannel I got rid of (the one that made me look green)
Dress trousers (plaid or black)
Light-coloured scarf
I'm actually surprised at how long this list is: obviously, if I don't find these things it wouldn't be the end of the world. But several things have been on my wishlist for a while (you can check out my clothes wish list board on Pinterest), such as the oversized denim jacket, so I'm optimistic that any purchase will be a long-term one.
